DullesOpen.com Releases Version 2.1 of Third Party SAS® Compiler, Carolina™
Reston, VA – (Sept. 8, 2007) -- DullesOpen.com, developers of the first third party compiler for Base SAS®, announced today the release of Carolina™ Version 2.1.
Carolina, which converts the Base SAS programming language to Java, so that it may be compiled and run efficiently in large corporate data centers, has been under development for three years.
“Carolina is showing good legs in the market, and as we gain client and partner experience, we are now launching a broad, global release,” said Drew Eginton, CEO of Dulles Research LLC, the parent of DullesOpen.com.
“We haven’t publicized the effort, mainly because we wished to test the product to the high commercial standards expected by SAS users, as well as our partners. Today we are confident that Carolina brings immediate commercial utility to large IT shops. In essence, it’s just a compiler for SAS code, so new and legacy SAS code may be converted and run more efficiently in the data center.
“The question we answer is this: can people run SAS without SAS? And yes, actually, now they can.”
SAS Institute Inc. is the dominant vendor worldwide in the development of high-scale business analytics, and the largest private software company in the world. The Base SAS language is interpreted and not compiled when deployed in its native form. SAS claims over 40,000 customers worldwide.
ABOUT CAROLINA:
Carolina today supports Base SAS, PROC SQL®, and SAS/Access®. Typical utilization is in the deployment of large enterprise scoring and ETL functions. No business process changes are required on the front end of analytical model development and ETL programming, where SAS is dominant.
“SAS Institute has built a legendary footprint in the software industry,” Eginton said. “SAS is the lingua franca of business intelligence. Carolina is an alternative to the SAS interpreter when deploying SAS language programs.”
Carolina reflects the integration, maintainability, and speed advantages unique to Java. Carolina runs in any JRE environment, version 5 or later.
Carolina is free for evaluation use, and may be downloaded at www.dullesopen.com. On online demonstration conversion utility is also available, allowing site visitors to upload and convert their SAS code to Java.
